Neoloy® Geocells Provide Better Protection, More Options

Gabions retaining walls are used for erosion control and scour protection support in slopes, shorelines, rivers and retention walls.

Gabions retaining walls are used for erosion control and scour protection support in slopes, shorelines, rivers and retention walls. Although they provide good earth stabilization if constructed properly, gabion installation process is complicated. The construction of Gabion basket retaining walls require a large amount of specific rock size, heavy equipment and stable platforms and their construction is time consuming. In terms of landscape visual aesthetics gabion designs are limited by their steep rock face and basket patterns.

Neoloy Geocells on the other hand provide the same or better erosion control and slope bank protection, but offers a much larger range of design and layout options. Neoloy is also a green solution, as the geocells serve as an ideal growth environment for the reestablishment of natural vegetation and landscape, much more than green gabion systems.

TOPIC PRS-Neoloy GEOCELLS GABION SYSTEM
Deformation High stability due to small cell size Easily deformable due to void space between stones
Installation Quick and easy with work crews trained on site Requires skilled placement and cranes to hoist in place
Infill Uses ungraded native or marginal soils and infill Requires specific quarried aggregate size and shapes
Versatility Wide range of slope and wall design options and infill materials Limited to steep vertical stone terraced
Base and Excavation Very small footprint even in compressible soils Requires excavation and base width at least 50% of total height
Landscape Aesthetics Enhances plant growth and landscape restoration Monolithic rock face only
Maintenance Strong, stiff and durable cells require little maintenance Regular maintenance of wire required
Sustainability Uses local, marginal or recycled materials for infill Requires specific quarry stone and
